Regional Strategies
The Regional Housing Strategy (RHS)

The RHS sets out the framework that will enable the region to provide good quality, affordable homes, fair access to housing for all and successful neighbourhoods.

The second Regional Housing Strategy has been prepared by the region’s Regional Housing Board. A revision was essential because of the development of housing policy over the last few years and the new national and regional policy context emerging from:

  • ODPM 'Homes for All' strategy
  • ODPM 'People, Places and Prosperity' strategy
  • The Barker Review of Housing Supply
  • The Northern Way Growth Corridor
  • The revised Regional Spatial Strategy
  • The revised Regional Economic Strategy.

For the first time the strategy incorporates sub-regional plans, reflecting the move towards sub-regional investment programming.

The 2005–2021 strategy was signed off by the Regional Housing Board and the Yorkshire and Humber Assembly in May 2005.

At sub-regional level the West Yorkshire Housing Partnership is responsible for the West Yorkshire Housing Strategy, which forms part of the region’s Subregional Plans.

At District level Bradford Council and Bradford Housing Partnership’s Joint Housing Strategy, “A Decent Home in a Decent Neighbourhood, issued in 2003, is one of the main supporting strategies and plans to the District Community Strategy.
