Regional Strategies
Regional Economic Strategy 2003–2012

The RES focuses on jobs, skills, wealth creation and business growth within the context of sustainable development. It seeks to improve business birth and survival rates, attract and retain more investment, improve the region’s infrastructure and provide economic opportunities for all.

2005 saw the second revision of the RES, which was undertaken to keep it contemporary and relevant. A revised RES has now been sent to Government for endorsement. Subject to this, it will be officially launched in mid 2006.

Further analysis is set out in a Companion Document that accompanies the RES. This Strategy recognises the diversity of the region and does not take a "one size fits all" approach to economic development, seeking different degrees of change: fundamental restructuring in South Yorkshire, sustained economic growth led by Leeds in West Yorkshire, maximising the impact of the ports in the Humber, and diversification of the rural economies of North Yorkshire and the East Riding.
