Sub-regional Organisations - Governance
AWYA: The Association of West Yorkshire Authorities
There are four sub-regional local authority organisations that consider local government issues and link to the Association of Local Authorities (ALA) regional agenda. For our sub-region this is The Association of West Yorkshire Authorities.
The Association consists of local authorities within the former Metropolitan County of West Yorkshire; the Councils of Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees, Leeds and Wakefield.
The work of the Association is mainly carried out through the Leaders' Council with the support of the Chief Executives' Coordination Group. Both of these groups meet on a six-weekly basis. There is also a Deputy Chief Executives' Co-ordination Group which reports to the Chief Executives' Co-ordination Group on matters concerning Implementing Electronic Government (IEG).
The work of the AWYA is supported by a broad range of officer groups and networks, acting to co-ordinate work across the sub-region in specific areas, for example, the Economic Development Officers' Group, the Local Health Authority Co-ordinators' Group and the West Yorkshire Chief Housing Officers' Group.
