The new transport minister for Yorkshire and Humber has pledged to deliver "economic success" to the region.
Rosie Winterton MP (Doncaster Central), who takes over from Caroline Flint as regional minister, said she is "delighted" with her appointment and now wishes to build on the progress made during the past six months.
She will work to create a "stronger regional dimension" to the government’s work and tackle the economic performance of some parts of the north, which are lagging behind other more prosperous parts of the region.
Ms Winterton said: "I am no stranger to the many and varied opportunities, issues and cultures of the Yorkshire and the Humber region.
"It has many strengths but I want to find out how it can do more, and how I can help, to make sure all parts of the region can enjoy the benefits of economic success and be able to prosper."
She added that her role will be to promote co-operation across the region and to help all communities achieve their full potential.
Ensuring a close dialogue between the public sector organisations that plan and deliver economic and enterprise strategies will also be a priority. |
