Up to 300 jobs are expected to be created in Yorkshire and the Humber through the construction of a renewable energy plant.
Power firm Helius Energy has announced it is to construct a biomass-fuelled plant in Stallingborough, near Grimsby.
Building work on the plant is to create some 120 jobs during the project, which the firm suggests could take about 30 months to complete once consent is granted.
John Seed, managing director of Helius Energy, told the Yorkshire Post: "The need for new renewable generation and a sensible replacement of fossil fuel-fired plants has never been more at the front of people’s minds."
He added that the 36-hectare Stallingborough site has been chosen as the location for the plant due to its excellent links for transport across the region.
This could allow the firm to use imported supplies of fuel following an initial period of sourcing its supply from the region, Mr Seed stated.
Stallingborough is located about four kilometres from Immingham and is "ideally situated" for transport by road, rail or via deep-water port access, Helius Energy affirmed. |
